Signal-Flow Glossary

This glossary follows the approximate order an audio signal travels.

Microphone / source — The device or playback source that creates the signal.

DL32 input — Stage-box input that receives a microphone or other source.

AES50 — Digital transport used between the DL32 and M32.

Preamp / gain — Input amplification applied near the beginning of the signal path.

Low cut / high-pass filter — Reduces low-frequency content below a selected frequency.

Gate — Reduces or closes a signal when it falls below a threshold.

Compressor — Reduces dynamic range when the signal exceeds configured conditions.

EQ — Frequency shaping.

Channel fader — Level control for the channel in the selected mix.

Bus send — Amount of a channel sent to a bus.

Bus — A mix path collecting multiple signals for a destination.

Bus 7/8 — Current linked broadcast mix: Video Left / Video Right.

Main / MONO CENTER — Current principal sanctuary mix destination.

Output routing — Assignment of a mix bus or other signal to physical/digital outputs.

ATEM — Video switcher receiving the church's broadcast audio mix.

BoxCast — Downstream broadcast distribution/monitoring system used by the video team.
